Former Texas Tech coach Tubby Smith facing tough time in Memphis following transition year

In 2013, Texas Tech hired Tubby Smith to take over as head men's basketball coach, but more importantly, to try to get the program back to where it was under legendary coach Bob Knight.

Fast forward to the 2015-16 season and Smith had the Red Raiders in its best position in years.

He didn't win a Big 12 Conference title or any trophy in fact, but he took Texas Tech back to the big dance in the NCAA Tournament — then he left.

Smith took an offer from the University of Memphis to take over as head coach following his award winning season at Texas Tech.
